A betel leaf belongs to the pepper family. It is mostly found and consumed in the Asia region. Betel leaf is very easy to grow at home from cuttings. Use a sharp and clean knife to get the cutting. Make a cut near root division and remove all the leaves from the stem, place the cutting into pot soil and place it in the direction of sunlight. Betel leaf is not very friendly with water so, don’t overwater it. Keep the water level moderate so that it will get rotted due to extra water. It prefers a hot and humid atmosphere. It can be grown throughout the year.

How to grow betel leaf plant from the leaf

  • Cut the leaves carefully from the stem, Make sure you are separating the node from the leaf it should be joined with the stem.
  • Put the leaves in water by keeping nodes inside the water.
  • Roots will start growing within 20–25 days.
  • You have to change the water in 4–5 days regularly.
  • After you see the roots inside the water plant them in the gardening soil in a pot.
  • You will get a nice bushy Betel Leaf vine by taking proper care of it.

How to take care of Betel Leaf Plant

  • The plant needs regular watering and it prefers a humid environment.
  • When a plant reaches around 2 meters of length, start pruning it to promote sweet and healthy leave growth.
  • Feed the once in a month with Nitrogen-rich organic fertilizer. Do not use chemical fertilizers.
  • Keep the plant in a humid place. In hard winter keep it indoors where the place is warm. Otherwise, it starts shedding off the leaves
  • Betel Leaf can fall prey to red mites which can cause severe damage to the plant. A mixture of Neem tree oil, insecticidal soap, and water can prevent the infection.
  • Overwatering can cause a fungal attack.
  • Leaf blight is commonly seen in this plant which is brown and black oily patches cover the leaf. Directly, pull out the infected leaves from the plant to prevent the spread.

Harvesting of Betel Leaf

After 4 to 6 months from plantation healthy, sweet, and aromatic leaves are ready to harvest.
